About Ballymun Tidy Towns
Come join Ballymun Tidy Towns!
Ballymun Tidy Towns (BTT) is an active group of local people who volunteer their time and energy to improve and keep our neighbourhood clean and attractive. Since it began in 2006, BTT has developed close links with community groups, schools, local businesses and Dublin City Council, and is also part of the National Tidy Towns network.
BTT brings together neighbours from different parts of our community to work on projects and take pride in our area. Our organising committee and volunteers share an enthusiasm for our local environment which has inspired projects like a recycling campaign, clean ups, and flower and tree planting, as well as other events like Ballymun in Bloom and the local area competitions which acknowledges the contribution of individual householders, youth groups, local groups etc for their efforts in improving the environment of Ballymun. Through all this we get to know our neighbours, take care of our local area and learn about biodiversity, recycling and sustainable living.
We are proud of what BTT has achieved but we want to continue to grow and learn – our aim for the future is a fully sustainable Ballymun! At BTT we believe that each of us can make a difference. We are at a crucial point in our biodiversity and climate crisis, and we are passionate about taking action to protect and improve our local environment, thus improving the quality of life for all Ballymun residents. If you have a love of our local area, a curiosity about nature, a passion for sustainability, and time and energy to give, we would love to hear from you!

About 5 Liffey
5 Liffey is an LCA class in Trinity Comprehensive Secondary School. They were the designers of the Ballymun Tidy Towns website and collected all information, photos and videos that have been uploaded. Two pupils from the class, Leah and Alanah conducted an interview with local representative from Tidy Towns, John.
The students also wrote a questionnaire for our volunteers as part of designing our website. These students are potential future volunteers in our community and it is brilliant to be able to engage with them. They wanted to gain a greater understanding of Ballymun Tidy Towns and why we volunteer. All responses collected were anonymous.
- Questions included:
- Is it annoying when teenagers make the places that you have cleaned up dirty again?
- What made you want to be a Tidy Towns representative?
- What more can we the people of Ballymun do to make your jobs easier?
- What was Ballymun like in the past before Tidy Towns?
- What are your main aims for the next few years?
The students also recommended some suggestions for a Better Ballymun going forward. These include improving Whiteacre Park by litter picking and painting squares and hop scotch on the ground. Litter picking around the whole community, placing more flowerbeds around the area, and promoting more street games in the community.
